Planet Earth has seven continents (eight depending on who you speak to) and a population exceeding 7 billion people as well as different species of animals and plants. Long before any of us were around, the Earth was one giant "supercontinent" known as Pangaea, which eventually began to break off into different pieces, making the continents that we now know. The continents only make up about 1/3 of the Earth's surface and consist of Asia, Africa, North American, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia (from largest to smallest). 

Just like the people who live on the different continents, each one has different characteristics that make it different from the others. Although they are made up of different countries, some of which speak different languages, there is always a common theme with each one. Europe, for example, is known for its elegance and sophistication. Africa is known for its hot weather and the diverse array of animals that are endemic to it, while Antarctica is known for its small population and frigid weather.
