About This Quiz

We all know about cultural trends that don't last. In the 1980s it was the mullet and oversized pants; the '90s saw the rise of Tamogotchis and "Sk8er" culture.

But there's one artist who has stood the test of time and remained a pillar of popular music and culture for nearly 60 years. That artist is Robert Zimmerman, more commonly known as Bob Dylan. He rose to fame in the early 1960s, playing the folk circuit in New York City. Dylan's scratchy, howling delivery and powerful lyrics about war and popular culture quickly grew his reputation. In 1962, the release of his second album, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, cemented his legacy as major folk star.

It was a 1965 set at the Newport Folk Festival, however, that would ensure Dylan would survive into the future. That night, in front of a crowd of concertgoers expecting soft acoustic numbers, Dylan performed with an electric, fully-amplified band. Music historians argue about the crowd's true opinion on the performance, but boos are audible in the recordings and many people took it to be a sign of fans rejecting his electric style – including Dylan himself.

Yet history would prove Bob Dylan was simply a pioneer, someone who may have evolved his art before the mainstream was ready for the new form. It's this spirit of evolution that has helped him stay fresh for so many years and write so many songs about different things.

Which of Bob Dylan's many varied songs epitomizes you? The answer isn't blowing in the wind – it's at the end of this quiz!
