When people hear about cars, it can lead to a random sort of topics that range from love to hate to cherish and even oddly marriage. Cars just seem to do it all. But only real lovers of these steel beauties understand that what’s under the hood is where the magic happens.
Sometimes, however, the general public isn’t too happy with what you’ve done under there. Take for example early 1990 England that was in the middle of trying to control a string of violent robberies where perpetrators would ram stolen cars into windows of retail stores before making off with lots of nice stuff. These “ram raids” were happening in the middle of a global economic crisis and causing widespread public stress if we’re honest about it.And that stress went into high gear when the Lotus Carlton was revealed to the world. It was an upgraded Vauxhall Carlton, known in the U.S.A. as the Cadillac Catera, that was quicker than a Ferrari Testarossa and Porsche 911 Turbo!
The Lotus Carlton brought to the public roads the incredible record of 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds, 0-100 mph in 11.1 seconds and 30-70 mph in 3.9 seconds!
It sounds like heaven, but England was not happy with this version of heaven. It was fast, available, and crooks were quick to take notice. One stolen Lotus Carlton was reported to have helped rip off an estimated 20,000 British Pounds in liquor and cigarettes! And now you know a little more about why we know you love engines as much as we do. So it’s time to prove just how much you do know about what makes these mechanics work and what the results will be!
