About This Quiz
Hey, rock fans! Let’s see if you really know your AC/DC! On this quiz, you’ll find lyrics from the ‘70’s like “If You Want Blood You’ve Got It,” the ‘80s like “Back in Black,” as well as some lyrics from songs of the ‘90s like “Moneytalks” and more recent ones like “Rock ‘N’ Roll Train.” This quiz has something for everyone, whether you're a long time fan or just started your collection.
The main purpose of this quiz is to honor Malcolm Young and his talents as a lyricist. Although Malcolm didn’t appear onstage in the highly recognizable school outfit that his brother, Angus, wore, he was credited with collaboratively writing almost all of AC/DC’s published lyrics. Angus has stated that his work will continue on after his death because he kept well-organized files of his ideas.
Many other bands went through stages where they experimented with new styles that often alienated longtime fans. Malcolm Young made sure that didn’t happen with AC/DC. He was able to take one moment in his life—when he was a rebellious teenaged schoolboy—and translate it into music for nearly half a century. His body might have aged, but his spirit remained unchanged.
You know there is a lot more to AC/DC than lyrics, but a “fill in the missing riff” quiz couldn’t be translated into an online quiz quite as easily. Malcolm Young (January 6, 1953 –November 18, 2017) was born in Glasglow, Scotland, UK. He passed away in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney, Australia at the age of 64. (“Back in Black”)

Most of AC/DC’s songs are credited as collaborations between Malcolm and Angus. Angus said Malcolm was better at organizing his contributions and so he was able to still include material from Angus even after Angus’ health prohibited him from being there in person. Malcolm Young had been a part of AC/DC since he formed it with his brother in 1973 until his illness forced his retirement in 2015. Their debut performance was at Chequers Nightclub on New Year’s Eve in 1973 in Sydney, Australia. Reportedly the management complained because they were too loud. (“T. N. T.”)

Malcolm Young emigrated to Australia from the United Kingdom in 1963 when he was ten years old with his older brother George and younger brother Angus. Older siblings Stephen and Margaret went with the family but were over 21 so they had to fill out separate emigration forms. Alexander (who wrote most of the songs for the U. K. band Grapefruit) remained in Germany at the time, and John emigrated to Australia at a different time. (“Guns For Hire”)

Seeing the “Easyfever” that swept Australia in the wake of his brother, George’s, successful band, the Easybits influenced Malcolm’s desire to become a musician. Malcolm was influenced by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, and Stevie Wonder. (“Have a Drink on Me”)

Angus first noticed the problems with Malcolm’s memory in 2008 while working on Black Ice. Before he quit the band, Malcolm had to practice songs over and over prior to the shows in order to remember them. (“Down Payment Blues”)
