Don't sleep on the Coast Guard. It is a part of the Department of Homeland Defense, but still is classified as part of the military, because if a war goes down, the President can have the Coast Guard at his disposal. But what makes the Coast Guard so darn cool is that defending our coast from potential invaders from other lands is just part of what it does.
The Coast Guard is mostly known for is search and rescue. In other words, if a ship or a person is lost at sea or in distress, the Coast Guard is who is going to come to help them out. It also is used as a sort of law enforcement operation at sea, looking out for drug dealers trying to bring in their product by boat, as well as working to stop illegal immigration.
What about you? Are you the type that knows a lot about the Coast Guard, and might even be a Coast Guard veteran, or are you the type that gets seasick when you even look at a boat and wears a lifejacket when you sit on a dock? We've devised a quiz that we think will tell us exactly which of you are a coastie, and which of you have no idea what we're talking about.
