About This Quiz

Although television and streaming media have largely eliminated regional dialects, Americans still retain a few differences in pronunciation. Ask a Southerner how to "get to New Orleans" and you'll likely hear how to "git to New Or-lee-uhns." Ask a New Yorker if a cat burglar was caught, and you'll probably hear that "He got CAWT, all right." And don't you dare ask a group of Americans from various regions to settle on the correct pronunciation for "pecan pie."Apparently, there are more than four different ways to say it!

So, how do you pronounce regionally divisive words like "crayon" and "sorry"? And what does that say about you? That's the focus of this quiz. We're going to ask you how to say "miracle," "pajamas" and "Realtor." By the end of the quiz, we'll have determined which American dialect you speak. That will enable us to tell you a secret about your personality ... one which just may surprise you with its accuracy.

Are you intrigued yet? Whether you're eager to share how you say "mayonnaise" or you merely want to see if we can guess where you grew up, this quiz will satisfy you. So what are you waiting for? Pull up a chair, put your phone on mute, and let's get quizzing!
